Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation Celebrating Annual General Meeting

SYDNEY, N.S – The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation is celebrating the successes of 2015 at their upcoming Annual General Meeting on March 31, 2016.

The meeting will highlight the work the Foundation and its donors have been doing to provide world-class healthcare at home for Cape Bretoners.

The Foundation has a long history of taking care of Cape Bretoners. In 1992, a group of community leaders, led by Jack Yazer, developed a vision for the creation of a health care complex designed to deliver leading edge medical services in Cape Breton allowing more Cape Bretoners to receive care closer to home. Since that time, the Foundation has raised more than $35 million.

Fittingly, the Foundation honors a community group or member each year with the Dr. Jack Yazer Caring Spirit Award. This year’s recipient is Father Albert Maroun. Father Maroun has been a generous donor and kind friend to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation over the years. He has supported areas of care at the Regional including, the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, mental health and addictions, diagnostic imaging, emergency care, and more.

Along with financial results, the AGM will share stories of patient care, and will aim to thank donors for their contribution to strengthening healthcare in Cape Breton.

For 2015, the Foundation’s fundraising expenses were 43% lower than the industry fundraising expense ratio standard of 35% according to Canada Revenue Agency. This is made possible through the support of hardworking volunteers and committed donors.

The Foundation’s 2015 disbursements and commitments see more than $4.3 million being invested into the health of Cape Bretoners in our community.

The AGM is open to the community and you are invited to join the AGM on Thursday March 31, 2016 at 6p.m in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital cafeteria.
