Island Breast Friends

A group of 5 women, called the Island Breast Friends have been raising money for Breast Cancer for nearly 14 years. On October 29th, they presented the Cancer Patient Care Fund with $8,500 to support cancer patients facing financial stuggles as a result of their diagnosis.

The gorup, consiting of: Patsy MacDonald, Heather Mcneil, Wanda Macdonnell, Valerie Carrigan Agnes (White) Martell have 2 events every year.

One on Plummer Ave day in July in New Waterford and a Tea and Sale in October. This year, there were 180 ladies there with approximately 27 Breast cancer survivors at our anual event.

In addition to fundraising, the group assembles comfort baskets when they hear of someone with Breast cancer.  These baskets are filled with blankets, pyjamams, books, mugs and much more.  They are beautifuuly made with ribbons and bows to brighten their day. To date, 132 baskets have been made since 2009.

The group of dedicated women are preparing to do a third Cookbook with recipes from survivors or families of those who have passed.
