The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation Celebrates the 11th Annual Festival of the Greens
SYDNEY, N.S – Holiday spirit filled the room at the 11th Annual Festival of the Greens Gala on Saturday November 15, 2014.
With more than 400 guests in attendance the gala featured music, dancing, comedy, along with a live and silent auction. The event raised more than $93,600 for cancer care in Cape Breton.
Funds from the evening will support the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, both the purchase of equipment and research.
The cancer needs at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre are tremendous. Currently, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation is focused on the purchase of a new Linear Accelerator, a life-saving machine that delivers radiation treatment to 30 cancer patients a day. Without this equipment, we will not be able to effectively treat the increasing number of patients in the centre.
Dr. William Harless addressed the sold out room, to educate on the importance of research and the work that he is doing to change the way cancer patients are treated. Dr. Harless, a native of Chicago, is working in Cape Breton, with patients from the Cape Breton Cancer Centre in his study. A portion of funds from the Festival of the Greens Gala will support necessary lab equipment.
The Festival of the Greens celebrated eleven years and has become a wonderful holiday event in the community. The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation thanks all guests, donors, prize winners and the Festival of the Greens committee for their dedication to healthcare in Cape Breton.
